New Hire Program

Hi All,

Do you run a New Hire Program as part of your United Way campaign? It's a great way to target individuals new to your work place that may not be exposed to United Way until your next campaign season.

United Way has just completed a great New Hire brochure. By targeting new hires with a brochure and a pledge form, you will help increase $$$ raised. Another payback is that you also expose your new hire that support of United Way and Community Health Charities are part of your work place culture.

A nice touch is if you're able to deliver the New Hire information in person. The primary reason people don't participate in the UW campaign is because they feel they haven't been asked. So take a couple minutes, say "hi" and "welcome", and let them know how integral the campaign is to both your workplace and to the community.

The New Hire brochure and additional pledge forms are available from the United Way office.

Thanks for all of your support! Dave

The Great Pumpkin ? ? ?

I guess this means "Autumn" is officially here. Another great work of art from Snitily-Carr. Snitily-Carr developed the graphics for this year's "We Live United" campaign. That would include all the posters, table tents, thermometers. . .and now pumpkins.

News on the campaign? Let's see what I know. . .

1) The City of Lincoln has really stepped up their game with this year's Charitable Giving Campaign. More to come on how they're promoting the campaign this year. For right now, I'll just say that Elvis may indeed still be alive.

2) Wells-Fargo Community Support Campaign showed participation growth from 30% last year to 76% this year. Super result!

3) The United Way thermometers are posted all over town. I pass the one at 70th & Pioneers (at Union Bank) regularly. It's showing we're at about 52% of goal. The mercury will continue to rise as campaigns turn in results.

Hope those of you in the middle of your campaigns are having fun, and raising money! The need for $$$ is greater than ever -- and so is the need to have fun. Make sure to work both into your campaigns.

Thanks for your support of the United Way! Dave

United Way Video

Have you seen the 2008 United Way Video? I'm sure most of you have. But if you'd like to share it with others, it's posted on YouTube:

This video does a great job in summing up the UW / CHC campaign vision in just a few minutes. And you can always get a DVD or VHS copy from the UW office. It's a great tool to use in a meeting, have on a loop in a high traffic area. . .and now, to e-mail to co-workers as well.

Thanks for all of your work on your campaigns! Dave

Unrestricted Giving

Here's one from the Blog Archives. . . an oldie, but a goodie. Dave

Hi All--

I would like everyone to think about ways to encourage unrestricted giving into your campaigns this year. The past three years, Community Health Charities (CHC) only received $$$ by donors who specifically designated CHC and/or CHC agencies. With the new United Way (UW) / (CHC) contract, CHC will receive a percentage from the total amount of $$$ raised.

This change had led to a better cooperative relationship between UW and CHC, since both organizations receive $$$ with each pledge. And . . .here's the key. . .since both organizations benefit, we as campaign coordinators and committee members need to drive home the point that with an unrestricted pledge "everybody wins". An unrestricted pledge allows both organizations to take full advantage of the programs where $$$ have been targeted.

So please think about ways to encourage unrestricted giving into your campaigns. This can be accomplished through employee education, and even targeting incentives (i.e. jean day, free soda, vacations day, etc.) to persuade people towards the "everybody wins" approach in giving.

Please contact me with questions/concerns. If I can't answer, I'll direct the questions to someone who can.

Thanks for supporting United Way. Dave
